Last Saturday I attended my first ever photography workshop.. yes, I have never attended any photo workshops before in my life. And it was a really good event. The master of digital photography in Malaysia himself, Jen Siow, was the speaker and he taught us how to use Apple’s Aperture 2 in our photography workflow.
I had a copy installed in my MacBook Pro for a couple of months already but I never learned how to utilise its full capabilities until I attended this workshop. It was jointly organized by Eisentech (the dealer for Apple’s softwares), CLICK! Magazine, and of course Apple Malaysia. And for RM150, you not only get to learn how to use Aperture 2 from Jen Siow, but you also get to shoot 2 models and get a free iPod Shuffle! Now that is what I call value for money..!
So here’s what Aperture 2′s interface looks like, in case you’re not familiar with it:
It is an amazing program for photographers. It’s a complete solution for importing, organizing, sorting, selecting, editing and exporting images, and also for archiving. I have used Adobe’s Lightroom before but since switching to Aperture 2, I have never looked back at all..
The master himself Jen Siow giving some pointers: he was very generous with his knowledge and kept everyone captivated throughout the entire session.
I think there were about 30 or more participants but I can’t be sure because I wasn’t counting:
So since they organized a model shoot for all of us, I decided to play around with my 5D and take part in shooting also.. I actually held back at first, thinking I don’t really wanna shoot this because it’s not my stuff, it’s not what I do. But after looking at all the other photographers snapping away I decided what the heck and just join in the fun.. And yeah.. it was FUN.
So here goes some of the images I created:
Last but not least, I just wanted to get a picture with Jen. The last time I saw him was many, many years ago and I wasn’t sure when I would see him again. Thanks Jen for a very informative workshop and many thanks to the organizers, Vincent of Eisentech, the people at CLICK!, and also Jinny from Apple Malaysia for doing a wonderful job! Let’s do this again!
