I felt like a fish out of water… The Nikon system is so completely different from Canon’s. I’m still trying to understand how Nikon works. I shot at JPG Fine and the file sizes are only 4-6MBs, but my old Canon 5D gave me 12MB files. I don’t understand this at all. Moreover I had limited lenses so I couldn’t really get the shots I wanted. I was slow in getting pictures because most of the time I had to fiddle with the camera to get the settings I wanted. The aperture and shutter doesn’t change if I don’t press the shutter halfway.. the colours look completely different compared to Canon’s.
Anyhow, this was only my first day out shooting with the D700, and I will need a lot of time to get used to it. Here’s some pictures that I like:
I really like this one:
A good portrait of young participants:
I had to crop this one:
This is one of my favourites:
To summarize my experience on this day: I felt like a totally new beginner in photography. I didn’t have my “touch” and I wasn’t confident of the camera. I hope the camera grows on me quickly because I need my “touch and feel” back!!

Jimin, I can noticed the color different on your Nikon camera, seem much nicer to me compare to Canon.

Vincent, I notice Nikon color is more blue, Canon color is more red. Don’t know which one I prefer but I remember Canon color was more solid.

Yeah, it’s somehow more blue. I’d always drool at my friends who use nikons because their skies are much bluer out of the box. I had to crank saturation and contrast to get not even close to it.
